First, an unhappy: Saigon has been bloody hot this week. Stepping outside has started to feel rather like opening a 180C oven and I am sad to report that the air-conditioning in our kitchen/dining room doesn't appear to iniate any appreciable sort of climate change! Ugh. Today when I was outdoors, waiting for Madeline to be dismissed from her classroom afterschool, I was daydreaming of Antarctica ...
Two good things happened this week - the Metro Cash n' Carry in my area finally did away with their 130 cm height rule for admitting children! Sometimes I lament that life in Saigon is against the families with small children (or families without nannies) with the lack of activities and shops that ban kids, so even if I don't take Madeline out to Metro to pick up a few things regularly, I will be happier here knowing that this obstacle has vanished! The other good thing: I found edamame at Metro - one of the snacks that we'd been missing ever since moving here. I am amazed at the quantity of soy beans my kids have ingested over the last 48 hours.
Also, I found a blog with a list of "places of interest" for children here in Saigon (yes, those activities that I said were sorely lacking in my previous paragraph - ha!).
Hahaha, glad you still can pick some good part in this so-called life. Haven't been in Saigon, wonder what's it's like living there so I was able to reach your blog. Thanks for sharing....
