For me, grocery shopping since we moved to SE Asia has had a stong auditory component. I was in Metro today, and as soon as I walked in, I could hear the little synthesized song that the forklifts play when they're on. Back in Thailand, I always associated shopping in Tops or the Central food floor with the "Cherry Berry" juice jingle, sung in an operatic fashion. Villa Market's soundtrack was either covers of popular Western music or Christmas carols played out of season.
I honestly have no memory of the musical background when I was shopping at the Calgary Co-op or at Dominion, back when we still lived in Canada. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I wander the aisles cluelessly here!
