The highlight of the day: sitting down at the table at the Hyatt and ordering four plates of their most excellent ricotta pancakes. We all enjoyed these; they arrived golden and fluffy, sprinkled with slices of strawberries and bananas, with a layer of ricotta cheese and something called honeycomb butter sandwiched in between. They have totally motivated me to think about making ricotta cheese so that we can make our own version of these to enjoy on the weekend. And apparently, it won't be that hard to enjoy these pancakes regularly as there are a few recipes for them on the internet already, like here. And apparently, "honeycomb" has nothing to do with bees, but instead is crushed sponge toffee. Hmm. Anyway, I digress ...
The low-light? Family photos. As I heard the grumbling and name-calling increase in frequency, I suddenly remembered that our photo session last year was equally frustrating, as was the year before that. I'm not sure how I forgot; perhaps it was because there were at least a dozen lovely photos from it that I was arranging in MyPublisher just a couple of weeks ago. I know that I've also been running for those last two weeks with a very tight focus on getting things ready for our Xmas holiday (though I've given up searching for shearling boots here) and ready for the photos (haircuts, clothes, and props, oh my!) and finishing up holiday stuff for Madeline at school (Christmas play, holiday crafts, parties), and it's been a challenge to spare a brain cell for anything else outside of all that. Hours later, I find myself still angry about the photo session. Next year, my memory better not fail me when my fancy turns to family photos ...
And my daughter apparently does not care about having pyjamas with cute monkeys on them. Broke my heart, that did.
