We had dinner out on Saturday; my kids shared a plate of pasta and were quite lovely dinner companions overall. Afterward, we wandered around outside and discovered that many of the buildings in downtown Ho Chi Minh City dressed themselves up in holiday lights and have sprouted festively-attired artificial evergreen trees. The streets were crowded and the sights were lovely, and I almost was able to ignore the heat. There seemed to be more balloon and toy vendors out then I usually see at night-time, and then I realized that there were also more small children out than usual as well. Downtown Saigon was hopping with adorable Vietnamese children dressed in party dresses and fancy shoes and jaunty red Santa suits. As we approached the Saigon Tax Center (which is really a shopping center - go figure), we saw why! It was outfitted with snowy scenes depicting various cities of the world (like Big Ben for London), and masses of people were jostling for prime positions in front of the scenes to pose for photographs. It was an amazing sight, and I have to mention again that the Vietnamese kids were so, so adorable in their holiday wear!
Other crazy things from the evening: a mom telling her daughter just to pee in the street if she needed to go, and crossing the street (clutching Sadie) with the motorcycles seriously driving around us with mere inches as buffer. Yeah.
That sounds so neat! I love happy accidents like that!!
