By far, the nicest playground that we've come across here in Saigon is the one at the Riverside Apartments. Lovely sand, a place to rinse hands and feet, equipment suitable for toddlers and preschoolers that is in excellent condition instead of rusty and in a state of disrepair, and it's shaded. I met another new-to-HCMC mom there last week - her daughter and Sadie have birthdays two weeks apart - and we had a really good time. The only problem with our visit to this very lovely and safe patch of fun was that I think that use of the playground might be restricted to residents of the Riverside Apartments. I didn't see any signs posted about this, but I could stop myself from taking my eyes off of Sadie (unfailingly climbing up to the highest slide, of course) to check for the security guard that I was sure was speedily heading our way.
Nothing happened, though, and I am tempted to made a second clandestine visit to the playground with kids. There are a few shops and businesses on the grounds, which are very much open to the public. Perhaps doing some grocery shopping at the Veggy's will ease my conscience a bit and I'll have a legitimate reason to be at Riverside and my girls can have a quick turn at the swings ...
