One day last week I was running and errand at Superstore, and as I passed by the aisle with all of the back-to-school supplies, I was inspired to buy Madeline a package of chunky crayolas and a pad of construction paper. I hadn't given her any drawing materials before, and maybe she was a budding artist waiting to be discovered. There were both washable and non-washable crayons on the shelf, and I decided to do the "smart mom" thing and buy the washable variety.
I now regret this decision. Less than three minutes after placing a green crayon in Madeline's hand and giving her a piece of yellow construction paper, but crayon was in her mouth. And it turned her green. I guess there is a down-side to crayons that are made to dissolve in the presence of liquid, because they don't discriminate between water and saliva! Argh!
At Madelines age, she will have an easier time with markers. I highly recommend the washable ones because she is sure to colour herself!
She's also old enough to start finger painting with you.
(I live in a family of artists...)

Hee hee - she turned green with the washable markers, too :) Maybe I should hold off of the artistic endeavors until she's not teething!
