I've been a little perturbed about Madeline's dental health these last couple of days. A few Alberta dentals have been chatting on CBC about how they see two or three babies a day in their practices with early childhood caries, and how moms are responsible. Blah. I didn't think that I was negligent by not wiping Madeline's teeth and gums after every breastfeeding session. I really don't think she'd appreciate me waking her up in the middle of the night to stick a damp cloth in her mouth. I do think that the dentists raise a good point, but perhaps they should have considered the practicality of their advice a little more.
hi there...i had heard from a dentist, that breastmilk left on the gums will not cause extensive tooth decay. I asked the same thing about waking up my son to wipe his gums and he said it is ok not to bother in the middle of the night.
