Last spring Chris and I debated whether we ought to purchase an infant seat to ferry our little sprog to and fro in the car or to invest in a convertible carseat that we could use rear-facing from birth and then switch to forward-facing when the little person became big enough. In the end we decided that it made more sense to put a small baby in a small seat, and we went with an infant seat.
As winter came, we saw that Madeline (having inherited her dad's tallness genes) would be approaching the height limit on her SnugRide. Thus the plan to get her a convertible carseat for Christmas was hatched. We installed it in the car this past Sunday, and noticed something interesting.
Madeline *just* fits this seat. It is impossible to make the harness any tighter or smaller, and it is just snug on her shoulders. The Marathon comes with a rubber pad between each half of the chest clip and the buckle inserts, and I had to remove those in order to position the chest clip at her armpits - the clip would have been right under her chin otherwise! From this experience, I have to wonder if it's really all that safe to put a newborn baby in a convertible carseat ... hmm ...
Madeline looks so cute in the seat! Will you be using the infant seat a bit longer, until she grows in to her new seat a bit more?

Nope - the convertible is installed and I've already washed the infant seat cover so it's ready to be packed away. The height limit on the Graco buckets is 26", and she's past that already. We probably could have gotten away with a few more weeks, but honestly, Madeline hated that thing so we're hoping she likes this one more :)

I hear you, Nikyla was in her big car seat at the same time last year as Madeline. The next problem you might run into is her pants vs shirts outfits, 2T shirts fit but the pants are too big in the waist...
Is Madeline more leg long or body or just growing all over! lol
I agree I wouldn't put a newborn in one of those car seats either... It would make me very nervous!

Jaime, it's her legs! She's inherited a few tall genes from her dad. We're already experiencing some size discrepancies - she still wears 3-6 in tops, but 6-12 in pants. I bought her a velour tracksuit back in the fall in 3-6, but a few months later I went back and bought a second pair of matching pants in 6-12 :) And her pink fleece jacket that still fits is 0-3 ... Weird!!! But on the bright side, I'm hoping that she's tall enough not to have to hem all of her pants when she's my age :)

If Madeline and Nikyla were the same age we could switch pants and tops!
I hear you all my pants are too long and need to be hemmed too.

Ditto the other comments: I love the photo. Baby Pearl is tall for her age too.
