Today when Chris's alarm clock went off and the radio came on, we learned that a couple out for a walk here in Calgary rescued a newborn baby who had been uncerimoniously disposed of in a plastic bag yesterday evening. Thankfully, the baby is alright - just had a mild case of hypothermia (it was only about seven degrees celcius last night), but immediately my newly-acquired mommy radar came on, and the feelings of distress, anger, and worry overcame me. All I could do was hope that the couple kept the little fellow warm (bonus points if they had a little hat to pop on his head) and that it didn't take very long for paramedics to arrive.
The mommy radar also springs into action whenever we're watching television and someone's child is sick or dying. Doesn't have to be a young child, either - just someone's child (which means just about anyone, yes). I start to worry that the same fate will befall my own child. Most recently this happened while watching season two of Six Feet Under on DVD and a minor character died of untreatable cancer. Don't think I'll be able to watch CSI ever again ...
My blood boils at things like that as well. Or, say, Chechen rebels taking schoolchildren hostage...

Some people are brain dead :<
That is the same reason why my husband and I quickly turn the channel whenever we see any show about sick or impaired kids. To sad :<

I completely hear you. I can't watch stuff on tv and if I hear about stuff on the news it makes my blood boil too. I am super sensitive to that type of stuff too.
