My husband makes me laugh. I've been a little suspicious of his motives lately - the baby is due in six days (hah!), and Chris has been making sure that we're eating plenty of spicy food and suggesting that we take frequent walks, among other reputed labour-inducing activities. He's an accountant, and I think that he doesn't want the baby to be born during month-end :)
If anything is going to make that baby come, its a good swig of castor oil...you'll be dying from the effects but it can also induce labour if the baby is ready!

I've heard that stuff is quite nasty!

Do not let me dishearten you, however I tried every labor inducing trick in the book to force my Jr #1 out in 2002. Petless, I'd walk other people's dogs up and down the street. I tried spicy food, but all it ever gave me was severe heartburn. I swam- alot. I even made a few unsuggestable advances on hubby (MIL advised that sex will bring labor on faster)- unsuggestable because well... 41 weeks pregnant (due October 18th 2002) I felt like a cow, or an elephant that I once watched the birth tape of.
In frustration, I gave up. I once joked that Jr #1 was going to wait until Halloween to come so I'd miss out on candy (and damn if the little bugger didn't try). Two days before the grand candy harvesting event, Sam was born. This pregnancy, I joked about the irony of if I should go into labor on Labor Day. Maybe this one will get the point.
Basically, nothing will make you have the baby any sooner than you are supposed to. The first baby is often late, so do not be surprised if the due date comes and goes. Remember these times, you'll get to guilt your kid with them later.
It could be worse, my MIL carried my hubby and his 4 siblings a month overdue each. Now THAT is a woman with restraint.

Don't you remember when Ross & Rachel had their baby on "Friends"? The spicy food didn't work, and neither did the exercise...it wasn't until they had that twinkle in their eyes and the lips locked...

Good luck and here's to going soon! For me what *might* have worked was after my internal, but probably coincidence though.

Good luck - all four of my babies were restless and I had at two false alarm visits to the hospital with each. Frustrating as all get out, that was. #1 and #2 labors were finally induced (ick!), #3 and the only boy was the quickest and #4's labor stopped. Just stopped right there in the middle of the hospital bed and at 5 cm or so. There's something to be said about scheduled c-sections. I just never had the nerve... I didn't even get an epi because I am deathly afraid of needles...

Ah, you ladies make me laugh :) I'm perfectly happy to let the little one appear whenever it wants - just think that my husband is kind of cute!
Have to agree that needles, particulary in the general area of one's spinal cord, can't help but be scary!

I got an epi with my first. Except for a few agonizing minutes when they put it in (I too hate the sight of needles) it was actually okay. The only true down side was that the nurses didn't want me moving around alot since I was lying on the tube and needle- which gave me neck cramps after a bit. Then again it could be because I was in a ghetto hospital where they give you teeny portions of food after giving birth.
I have to admit it though, I had to confess to my husband that I declared my undying love for the anesthiologist after he paid me a visit.
