i just want my mail
I read the article Canadians stranded by Thai unrest to receive flight out and the comments, and I have a few things to say ...
- Tourists, Canadian or otherwise, are not in danger here, unless they're trying to access 3-4 very specific locations in Bangkok.
- Health care is cheap here, so lack of medical insurance is not a good reason to require evacuation. I've been a very regular patient at one of the most expensive hospitals in Bangkok for most of this year, and I paid out of pocket for my prenatal exams because it only cost about $30 CAD to see my doctor.
- There are world-class hospitals here, and they would have the world-class drugs. And they will cost less here.
- The Canadian gov't has had a travel advisory out for Thailand since before we moved here in July 2007. The idea that something could happen here that affects one's travel should not take anyone by surprise.
This is not to say that we haven't been affected by the political unrest and the subsequent airport closures. We haven't received any mail from overseas in awhile, and I'm waiting on a few etsy items. Yeah. Life is going on as normal here, except I'm missing some mail.

Glad to hear that you're okay. I hope the mail arrives (way) before Christmas.
