where's spiderman when you need him?

Everytime Madeline and I go outside to hang out on the deck, I spend a few minutes brushing away the new crop of spiderwebs, all the time marvelling at how strong the webs are!  You see, I'm in the market for strong thread. I've been repairing some fraying moccasin stitching on a pair of Madeline's shoes, and my latest attempt (dental floss) didn't hold up particularly long. Does anyone have any ideas? I have a skein of embroidery thread here, but I don't think that will do the job. I've toyed with the idea of fishing line, but I have a hunch that there probably is something better out there!

I inherited some sewing stuff from my hubby's grandma and in the midst of that was some "upholstery thread" ... it was a hideous icky gold color straight out of the 70s, but man was it strong.... Wonder if you can find that?

Upholstery thread! Ah, that sounds like a good alternative! My local fabric shop might even carry something like that - they have a huge section for upholstery fabric, at any rate.

I totally can picture an icky 1970's shade of gold LOL!

Try a shoe repair shop. They use waxed (treated thread) that is very strong.

Let me know if you find something, if not, I had some thread around here that I used that worked on my old mocs and I can send you some on down. It was just super strong, heavy duty thread but it worked, I did it over and over and over again for it to hold.

Your letters are so cute. I tried this last night with just one to see if it would be easy and it is. I'm going to do a whole word next time. Love your blog!!!

Hello! This may be way too long past the time to be useful to you, but perhaps if anyone else has the same problem they'll have the answer! I make mocassins & beaded mitts and we use sinew. Used to be a time when we use authentic animal sinew but I'm pretty sure mine is synthetic to some degree. I'd be happy to mail you some if you still need it! It comes in a huge roll and usually we split it apart and use different thicknesses depending on what I'm making. Hope this helps!
Patrice :)
