So, on Saturday, Chris and I were on the verge of going out to run errands when he ran into our next-door neighbour on the east side. Neighbour mentioned that she'd had coffee or something with the elderly couple that we bought our house from, and they had asked if they'd had any mail. "There's been some mail for them," admitted Chris. "Did you forward it on?" asked Neighbour. "We weren't left a forwarding address, so we just scrawled "moved" across the mail and returned it to the post office!" Chris explained. Obviously not the answer that Neighbour was looking for, as she kind of snottily asked why we did that, and told Chris to put all further mail in her mailbox. Bah! If the elderly couple was so worried about their mail, why did they not take advantage of Canada Post's mail redirection service? Or leave a forwarding address? We obviously do not live in Mr. Roger's neighbourhood!
Off-topic, but what Chris told me is indeed true: Canada is going to get to see Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica after all ... I must make sure that we have popcorn ready!

I totally agree. Since when are you the caretakers of these's people's mail. Ugh.
On the Newlywed vibe. I totally got addicted to watching the show and somehow they both grew on me. I can't explain it, but I truely want it to work out for them. Perhaps, Jessica, isn't that evil after all.

ha ha! You could have sent the mail with Mr. Speedy McSpeedy postman (can't remember his name)
Oh! And Six Feet Under will start with Season 1 on Showcase this Sunday!

Did you know that Canada Post stopped attempting to forward mail that has been unsuccessfully delivered the first time? That's right, when you write "Moved" or "Wrong Address" or whatever on these envelopes they hit the Dead Letter Pile. Honestly, you may as well throw the stuff in the garbage if you don't have someone to pick it up.
My thought on the matter is that if you can't be bothered to pass on your new address to senders, then you really can't be bothered to get your mail. I still get VISA statements and other intimate, necessary mail for the old owners of my house. I refuse to feel the least bit concerned about it.

Ada, it was Mr. McFeely :) We still haven't given in to peer pressure and ordered cable or satellite, so we're waiting for the second season to come out on DVD.
Everyone, thank you for the support on the mail issue. It was soooo annoying!

You should find out where the old couple moved to... then forward it not to they're house.... but to the house next to it. Wouldn't that be fun and confusing for them? Try this idea... open it, and then tape it up and then put it in the mailbox of your neighbors. Or, put it in the toilet and pee on it. Or, just write "return to sender" on it and then the post office would send it back. ech.

I live in a rented house so we always get mail from people who used to live there. The worst is mail from the Banks, we have tried to tell them that the people they are trying to contact have moved but they never listen! We have even had unsigned credit cards sent to us!!

I enjoy reading through this informal place. I will surely visit you again to see if anything new appears on it.
Good luck for the future.
